We tried to spend time together as a family as much as we possibly could before Jon had to take off.

While it was a pain in the neck having such an advance notice (we found out in, like, February) as opposed to 2 or 3 weeks, it was also a huge blessing. It gave us a chance to make sure we didn’t take each other for granted. We were able to spend time together that we may have let go to waste otherwise. And we were able to help the kids have happy, fun memories of Jon to think of while he’s away.
